Reddit Shadowban Notice

My Reddit account has been shadowbanned. I can still read your comments and DMs [i think...], but my replies won't be visible to others until the ban is lifted. If you're waiting on a response, I'm not ignoring you, I just can't reply publicly right now.

A direct method of communication to me is at f@cyoa.qzz.io.

Community Replies

Due to the shadowban I can't reply publicly on Reddit. Here are responses to some common questions and feedback from the community:

Is this just linking to existing CYOAs or is it actually hosting backups? (with the neocities purge, the latter would be more reliable but I'm not sure what your goal is).
This site is hosting backups whilst also linking to existing CYOAs. Future plan is to allow creators to upload their own content directly. Think of it as a community hub.
Right now I think the biggest issue isn't the site itself but rather the tags. They're incomplete and inconsistent, which makes searching harder. Right now some have tags just for the most prominent parts, and some tag anything that might appear in it. It seems tags are case sensitive, and there isn't any checking for redundancy, so you wind up with scenarios where "submissive player" (design tag), "Submission", "Submissive", "Submissive POV", "Submissive Player", and "submissive player" (content tag) are all different tags. The submission and submissive tags are both vague as to if they're descriptive of the player or other characters. The rest are all the same tag.
Correct, I'm aware of this issue & the reason that is happening is because of the way I imported the data. I prioritize availability (archival purpose, since neocities is purging content.) over perfect tag consistency for now. The new system will allow for better tag management.
Is there a way to add CYOAs?
Yes! Send the title, author, and a link to f@cyoa.qzz.io and I'll add it in the next batch update.
The interactive player isn't loading for some CYOAs.
Some older CYOAs rely on external resources that may have gone offline. Try the "Open Original" link to access the source directly, or use the Static Version if available. If you have the original files for any CYOAs that aren't working, please send them to f@cyoa.qzz.io.

ps. If you've commented on the reddit post, good chance I've added it already.
Will there be a way to upload CYOAs yourself?
Yes I'm actively working on auth/middleware/backend for community self-upload. See Upcoming below.
Add an option to allow creating personal customizable lists.
This would be implemented w/ account feature; The creator(s) would be prioritized before it's open to public
More objective tags and filters — there are several that are basically the same thing.
These are from the creator themself/ original google sheets; In the future my plan/idea is to allow creator to create their own tags
a simple and exclusive login system for CYOA creators, allowing the creators themselves to add and update their own CYOAs.
Soon. After the archival is finished-ish/I've sort out the basic site feature. For now people can request to me if they want their CYOA to be uploaded/updated to the site.
Self hostable when?
Soon? I don't know if y'all are interested in this very funky codebase, it's very much ever changing and there is no spec/proper docs made just yet. This site is still a baby bird.

Upcoming

User/Account Self-Upload
Auth and middleware for registered users to submit and manage their own CYOAs directly through the site.
In Development
User Accounts & Collections
Save favorites, track what you've played, and create shareable lists.
